Middle Class--Not the Rich or the Poor--Pay Majority of Federal Taxes, Says CBO Data

CNSNews.com

Middle-class Americans--not the rich or the poor--pay the majority of annual tax revenues taken in by the federal government, according to data released in a new Congressional Budget Office study. Households earning less than $34,300 per year, meanwhile, actually pay a negative average federal income tax rate. ...

The progressive taxation system that we use in this country is an absolute joke! It's time to repeal the 16th Amendment and institute a VAT (value added tax) or a national sales tax. This would cover EVERYONE, including the underground economy (those that get paid in cash and never report it). It would also be the fairest and most equitable system.

Those troublesome Jews

The Washington Post: Charles Krauthammer

...In World War II, with full international legality, the United States blockaded Germany and Japan. And during the October 1962 missile crisis, we blockaded ("quarantined") Cuba. Arms-bearing Russian ships headed to Cuba turned back because the Soviets knew that the U.S. Navy would either board them or sink them. Yet Israel is accused of international criminality for doing precisely what John Kennedy did: impose a naval blockade to prevent a hostile state from acquiring lethal weaponry. ...

These "humanitarian" flotilas are being coordinated by and conducted by militant Islamists whos sole goal is the destruction of Israel! There is nothing "humanitarian" about them. Israel has the right to defend itself against those who would do it harm, and that's exactly what these "humanitarians" intend!

The Poem of the Statue of Liberty

The New Colossus

By Emma Lazarus, 1883

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

The beginning of the Statue of Liberty poem refers to the Colossus of Rhodes, which was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The Colossus of Rhodes is actually a statue of the Greek god Helios, which stood over 100 feet tall (the tallest of its time) before it was destroyed by earthquake in 226 BC.

So, the Statue of Liberty poem refers to this new giant statue likened to the old that represented the god of light. The Statue of Liberty poem also sets itself apart from Helios in that the Mother of Exiles is more welcoming than conquering. She welcomes all castaways, misfits and homeless types dreaming of freedom.

The ObamaCare Writedowns

The corporate damage rolls in, and Democrats are shocked! - WSJ.com

It's been a banner week for Democrats: ObamaCare passed Congress in its final form on Thursday night, and the returns are already rolling in. Yesterday AT&T announced that it will be forced to make a $1 billion writedown due solely to the health bill, in what has become a wave of such corporate losses. ...

You have to love the irony. The Democrats have been preaching to us how great ObamaCare is going to be, but when companies start publicizing the truth about how they are going to be hurt economically, they start screaming bloody murder. They then proceed to start sending out subpoenas to them calling them before Congress to threaten them for telling the the truth! This is pure intimidation by the Democrats! If these corporate presidents had any testicular fortitude, they'd tell Waxman and Stupak "SCREW YOU, WE DON'T ANSWER TO YOU!"

Is Health Care a Right?

A MINORITY VIEW
BY WALTER WILLIAMS
RELEASE: WEDNESDAY, MARCH 10, 2010

Most politicians, and probably most Americans, see health care as a right. Thus, whether a person has the means to pay for medical services or not, he is nonetheless entitled to them. Let's ask ourselves a few questions about this vision. ...

Well, let's look at what the author of the US Constitution and the Declaration of Independence had to say:

"Our tenet ever was that Congress had not unlimited powers to provide for the general welfare, but were restrained to those specifically enumerated, and that, as it was never meant that they should provide for that welfare but by the exercise of the enumerated powers, so it could not have been meant they should raise money for purposes which the enumeration did not place under their action; consequently, that the specification of powers is a limitation of the purposes for which they may raise money. ."
-- Thomas Jefferson letter to Albert Gallatin, 1817

"They are not to do anything they please to provide for the general welfare.... [G]iving a distinct and independent power to do any act they please which may be good for the Union, would render all the preceding and subsequent enumerations of power completely useless. It would reduce the whole instrument to a single phrase, that of instituting a Congress with power to do whatever would be for the good of the United States; and as they sole judges of the good or evil, it would be also a power to do whatever evil they please."
-- Thomas Jefferson

"Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government."
--James Madison

"If Congress can do whatever in their discretion can be done by money, and will promote the General Welfare, the Government is no longer a limited one, possessing enumerated powers, but an indefinite one...."
-- James Madison, letter to Edmund Pendleton, January 21, 1792

James Madison, the Father of the Constitution, elaborated upon this limitation in a letter to James Robertson:
With respect to the two words "general welfare," I have always regarded them as qualified by the detail of powers connected with them. To take them in a literal and unlimited sense would be a metamorphosis of the Constitution into a character which there is a host of proofs was not contemplated by its creators. If the words obtained so readily a place in the "Articles of Confederation," and received so little notice in their admission into the present Constitution, and retained for so long a time a silent place in both, the fairest explanation is, that the words, in the alternative of meaning nothing or meaning everything, had the former meaning taken for granted.

In 1794, when Congress appropriated $15,000 for relief of French refugees who fled from insurrection in San Domingo to Baltimore and Philadelphia, James Madison stood on the floor of the House to object saying, "I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents."
-- James Madison, 4 Annals of congress 179 (1794)

"Congress has not unlimited powers to provide for the general welfare, but only those specifically enumerated."
--Thomas Jefferson, Letter to Albert Gallatin, 1817

So, unless you really don't give a damn about the tennets that this country was founded upon and/or are truly pathetic and need your governmental wet-nurse/nanny, you cannot rightly support nationalized health-care or these "reforms!"

Who Poses the Greater Threat?

A MINORITY VIEW
BY WALTER WILLIAMS
RELEASE: WEDNESDAY, MARCH 3, 2010

Bill Gates is the world's richest person, but what kind of power does he have over you? Can he force your kid to go to a school you do not want him to attend? Can he deny you the right to braid hair in your home for a living? It turns out that a local politician, who might deny us the right to earn a living and dictates which school our kid attends, has far greater power over our lives than any rich person. Rich people can gain power over us, but to do so, they must get permission from our elected representatives at the federal, state or local levels. For example, I might wish to purchase sugar from a Caribbean producer, but America's sugar lobby pays congressmen hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions to impose sugar import tariffs and quotas, forcing me and every other American to purchase their more expensive sugar. ...

An interesting aside, the majority of those hated "rich" people are not conservative. When you look at their voting record, they overwhelmingly vote liberal.

Is it any wonder people hate the IRS?! Never mind for a minute the heavy handed thuggery, think of how much of OUR tax dollars were just spent to collect 4 CENTS! Anybody that would justify these type of actions by bureaucrats within our government needs to seriously contemplate why they are living in this country, or they need to do some serious review of the Constitution and what our Founding Fathers had to say about such things. They most certainly would NOT tolerate this! To be clear, it is EXACTLY what they fought against!

I personally hope that he and the others follow Justice Thomas' lead and stop attending these shams. What the President did was absolutely inappropriate and classless. It was the act of a petulant child who didn't get his way. These actions are not the actions of thoughtful and reasoned individuals. They are the actions of arrogant, condescending jerks who only know how to bully their opponents.

Here's a little history lesson about Planned Parenthood and it's founder. Margaret Sanger, who founded the "American Birth Control League," which later became know as PLANNED PARENTHOOD was a believer in EUGENICS, believing in the use of "birth control" or in the most prominent case, abortion to further the "improvement" of the human race. Adolf Hitler got the idea for his "master race" from Ms. Sanger and eugenics. Eugenics is, "the study of or belief in the possibility of improving the qualities of the human species or a human population, esp. by such means as discouraging reproduction by persons having genetic defects or presumed to have inheritable undesirable traits (negative eugenics) or encouraging reproduction by persons presumed to have inheritable desirable traits (positive eugenics)." -- Dictionary.com. The Big Ten Conference will explore the possibility of expansion in the next 12 to 18 months, according to a statement the league will release at 4 p.m. ET Tuesday. There will be no press conference to make the announcement. ...

If I had a pick for the 12th member, it'd be either Syracuse, Nebraska or Missouri.

Fast-Growing Christian Churches Crushed in China

International News | News of the World | Middle East News | Europe News - FOXNews.com

Fast-Growing Christian Churches Crushed in China, Towering eight stories over wheat fields, the Golden Lamp Church was built to serve nearly 50,000 worshippers in the gritty heart of China's coal country. ...

My prayers go out to these people. I pray that God gives them strength to carry on and not lose faith. Christians in the US are facing bigotry, but nothing like they are elsewhere in the world. All you have to do is read Fox's Book of Martyrs and you can see what Christians have faced from the very beginning.

Capping Emissions, Trading On The Future - Forbes.com

The West's goals in Copenhagen are tantamount to suicide.

Whatever the results of the Copenhagen conference on climate change, one thing is for sure: Draconian reductions on carbon emissions will be tacitly accepted by the most developed economies and sloughed off by many developing ones. In essence, emerging economies get to cut their "carbon" intensity--a natural product of their economic evolution--while we get to cut our throats. ...

We are being sold a bill of goods by the likes of Al Gore, the "scientists" at East Anglia University, NASA and else where. Now upon finally being able to closely examine what we are being asked to buy we find out it's totally worthless and that Al Gore and his ilk are nothing more than modern day snake-oil salesmen. Yet, when we refuse to buy their garbage we are labeled "deniers" and called stupid for not wanting their crap. Well, thanks to a few thousand emails that were pilfered last week, we now know that they are the ones that deserve a moniker. So, hence forth, using their own methods, I label them WARMERS. A warmer being, one who tries to, knowingly, force the false premise of man-made global warming on others in an attempt to enrich themselves and enlarge their own power base for their own self-serving interests. Feel free to expand than definition. I know I didn't get the entire area encompassed.

Rants - Autoextremist.com ~ the bare-knuckled, unvarnished, high octane truth...

Autoextremist.com - an Internet magazine devoted to news, commentary and analysis of the auto industry - a weekly

Some of my colleagues in the media have been quick to canonize Ed Whitacre, characterizing the new “interim” GM CEO as some sort of visionary for his latest management shake-up this week. And judging from what I’ve been reading, “Big Ed” seems to be getting a huge pat on the back for making the most rudimentary executive moves he could have possibly made - some of which are highly suspect, at best – and for using the words “accountability” and “responsibility” and phrases like “taking risks” as examples of GM’s new mantra. ...

GM needs a true "car guy" running the show. "Big Ed" has publicly stated he doesn't know anything about cars. That, to me, is astounding! Other than the fact that he's an Obamao disciple, and got the job due to Obamao's fascist take over of GM, why would anyone hire someone to run a company in which they have no experience?! It makes absolutely no sense what so ever. It would appear that this same inept line of thinking has now cost several thousand more people in the auto industry their jobs due to the failure of the deal for the Penske Group to take over Saturn. Well, maybe they can get the Chinese company that bought Hummer to save the deal.

Jobs or Snow Jobs?

RealClearPolitics.com

President Obama keeps talking about the jobs his administration is "creating" but there are more people unemployed now than before he took office. How can there be more unemployment after so many jobs have been "created"? ...

As usual Dr. Sowell hits the nail squarely on the head. It has been shown that the supposed job growth, especially that attributed to the "stimulus," just like the evidence for global warming, has been fabricated! To believe anything coming from this administration takes a willing suspension of disbelief. Other than employing more bureaucrats, please name for me an instance where government has "created" jobs. As Dr. Sowell points out in this article, government doesn't have the ability to create jobs. Jobs must come from created wealth, or in other words, the wealthy. Unfortunately, we have an administration and leaders in Congress that are more interested in facilitating class warfare and the marxist notion of "spreading the wealth."

Constitutional Contempt

A MINORITY VIEW
BY WALTER WILLIAMS
RELEASE: WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2009

At Speaker Nancy Pelosi's Oct. 29th press conference, a CNS News reporter asked, "Madam Speaker, where specifically does the Constitution grant Congress the authority to enact an individual health insurance mandate?" Speaker Pelosi responded, "Are you serious? Are you serious?" The reporter said, "Yes, yes, I am." Not responding further, Pelosi shook her head and took a question from another reporter. Later on, Pelosi's press spokesman Nadeam Elshami told CNSNews.com about its question regarding constitutional authority mandating that individual Americans buy health insurance. "You can put this on the record. That is not a serious question. That is not a serious question." ...

When you have no answer to a question or know that you've been had you belittle the questioner and call the question irrelevant!

America as Texas vs. California

The Enterprise Blog

New Geography, the online magazine created by Joel Kotkin and others with a special focus on demographics and trends, has been tracking the implosion of California in an interesting way: by comparing it to Texas. ...

This is a very interesting and eye opening read. Clearly Texas is doing it right and is the model for the rest of the country. I would love to see Ohio follow this model next year when John Kasich is elected governor and the State House is redone.

November To Remember

Palestra.net -The College Network

During Ohio State's final three games of the season, the Buckeyes beat Penn State, Iowa, and arch rival Michigan to win an outright Big Ten championship. Palestra.net's Gary Orr has more on OSU's November to remember.

Global warming has now been shown to be the LIE and FARCE that it is! What's worse is, these "scientists" have put a bad stain on science with their actions.

Ohio State is Outright Big Ten Champion!

The Ohio State Buckeyes Official Athletics Site - OhioStateBuckeyes.com

Ohio State defeats Michigan, 21-10 in the in the 106th meeting between the schools.

As I said on twitter, it was another ugly, conservative, close to the vest(pardon the pun) offensive performance, but it's a win and that's what counts! Make that 6 in a row of M******n, 5 straight 10 win seasons, 5 straight Big10 Championships with this one being yet another outright championship. GO BUCKS!!!

Stefanie Spielman Succumbs To Cancer

Bucknuts.com | Football - Other

Stefanie Spielman, wife of former Buckeye Chris Spielman, has lost her long battle with cancer.

Stefanie Spielman, wife of former Ohio State and National Football League star Chris Spielman, passed away this evening after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. The following is the official statement from the family followed by a special request from the family. ...

... Stefanie’s husband Chris released this statement a short time ago: “Stefanie has gone home to be with the lord. And for that we celebrate, but with broken hearts. I want to thank everyone for their support over the last 12 years. Together with your help, hopefully we made a difference in this fight.” ...

How truly sad! My prayers go out to Chris and the kids at this time of loss. May The Lord comfort them with the reassuring knowledge that she is with Him now!

With Hurricanes At Thirty Year Low, Gore Turns To Photoshop

Alex Jones’ Prison Planet.com

The King of cap and trade simply airbrushes them in to his new book to create a more scary earth

With the increasingly discredited notion of man-made global warming crashing and burning on a daily basis, climate alarmists are being forced to accelerate their fearmongering to unprecedented levels. With the evidence failing to match up to the doomsday proclamations, Al Gore has turned to photoshop in order to make a CO2-choked earth look scary enough to sell his cap and trade scam. ...

Gore has ozone for brains! I've read his book , Earth in the Lurch, er I mean Balance, and still have it in my library. It's the biggest bunch of suedo-science going. I also find it rather interesting that he will not debate the issue with those who disagree with him. I think it's quite clear that he knows that he will get crushed if he does. Oh, and let's not forget the fact that he's a giant hypocrite! He's making millions off this farce, not to mention the fact that he flies around in the biggest most expensive and fanciest private jets going and lives in a mansion that has a "carbon footprint" 20x's the size of the average US home! To believe anything he says takes a willing suspension of disbelief!

Deadly denial

Fudging the facts on Fort Hood - NYPost.com

We've already learned that Islamist terrorist Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan attended the Northern Virginia mosque of Imam Anwar al-Aulaqi, a fiery al Qaeda supporter who later fled the United States. We know that Hasan's peers, subordinates and patients repeatedly raised red flags that his superiors suppressed. We know he was a player on Islamist-extremist Web sites. The FBI's uncovering one extremist link after another. ...

Hasan IS an Islamic Jihadist! The only reason not to say so is political correctness. It's time to purge this Orwellian crap from our country and especially our military! Once again I refer to my favorite Thomas Paine quote, "He who dares not offend cannot be honest."

How low will the new American president go for the world's royalty? This photo will get Democrat President Obama a lot of approving nods in Japan this weekend, especially among the older generation of Japanese who still pay attention to the royal family living in its downtown castle. ...

Who the crap is running the Protocol office and what the heck are they doing?! The President of The United States of America DOES NOT bow to ANYONE!!! Nor do other countries leaders bow to him. He just made himself, and by extension the people of this country, equal to peasants. I thought this man was supposed to be a brilliant intellectual?! He's coming across as an absolute fool on the world stage!!!

Schieffer: Christianity 'Has Nuts Too'

All you can do is shake your head at the insanity of this statement! Mr. Schieffer is a COWARD, A POLITICALLY CORRECT COWARD!!! It's also sad that Graham didn't have the testicular fortitude to challenge Schieffer on his statement. As I've said before, I DESPISE political correctness. It lacks any honesty or integrity. To quote Thomas Paine, "He who dares not offend cannot be honest." The attack at Ft. Hood was a terrorist act perpetrated by an Islamic jihadist and the first such act on our soil since 9/11. To borrow a comment from the retired Colonel that O'Reily has on his show periodically, "when was the last time a Southern Baptist strapped a bomb on and blew himself and dozens of other up? If Islam is a religion of peace, then let them start acting peacefully!"

Buckeyes Handle Penn State 24-7

The Ohio State Buckeyes Official Athletics Site - OhioStateBuckeyes.com

Terrelle Pryor threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in his return to his home state and No. 15 Ohio State won a duel of the Big Ten's top two defenses with a 24-7 victory against No. 11 Penn State on Saturday. ...

A dominating performance by the defense and a nice job by the offense, can't complain too much. Would like to see us come off that "play for field position" mindset and bring in some better assistant coaches, especially a QB coach who can truly develop Pryor.

Would like to have seen Iowa win today. I wanted it to be us that knocked them from the ranks of the unbeaten. Oh well, take care of business the next 2 weeks and it's on to the Rose Bowl.

House Committee on Ways & Means - Republican

Committee On Ways & Means Republicans Ranking Member, Dave Camp

Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years. ...

Left Lashes Out at ‘V’, Obama-Friendly ABC Purges Showrunner…

BigHollywood.com

Last night a brave and insightful documentary was aired that accurately portrayed the wave of ObamaMania that swept the nation. It was called “V” and aired on ABC to mostly rave reviews and tremendous ratings. ...

Wow, that sure didn't take long! No, the show's not been canceled (it apparently got huge numbers because of the direction it was going), but the guy who was guiding the show is out. I'm now going to be even more interested in seeing what direction the show takes now.

Pryor Ready For Penn State Challenge

palestra.net/Ohio State

Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor may hail from the Keystone State, but when the Buckeyes travel to State College, PA on Saturday to take on Penn State, Pryor will be in hostile territory. Palestra.net's Jackie Bardosi has more on how Pryor feels about that challenge.

Pryor would be much further along if he had a true QB coach tutoring him. Hopefully that change is made before next season. With that said, I can't wait till Saturday! I think we're gonna sweep our last 3 games of the season and win yet another Big10 Championship.

'V' aims at Obamamania

chicagotribune.com

Imagine this. At a time of political turmoil, a charismatic, telegenic new leader arrives virtually out of nowhere. He offers a message of hope and reconciliation based on compromise and promises to marshal technology for a better future that will include universal health care. ...

This is a rather interesting take on the new show. If the "commentary" from this show is being portrayed correctly, I'm surprised that ABC would air it. If it is correct, I'll be interested to see if they keep it on or bow to the inevitable pressure to drop it. I am curious to see how it plays out as compared to the original series.

Buckeyes Blank New Mexico State, 45-0

The Ohio State Buckeyes Official Athletics Site - OhioStateBuckeyes.com

Ohio State treated its fans to a variety of trick plays on a Halloween afternoon, most of them sparking a 28-point second quarter, and the 17th-ranked Buckeyes rolled over New Mexico State, 45-0, Saturday in Ohio Stadium. ...

I really don't have much to say about this game. It was really nothing more than a glorified scrimmage. Thankfully, we came out of it healthy. Now on to State College, PA!

The Vilification of Rush

American Thinker

Liberals would prefer no opposition. Behind the force field of political correctness, there should never be any disagreement once the liberal mind has decided that something is good for society. There can be no opposition to the "correct" way of thinking, and if you don't think "correctly," you are attacked. ...

Here's a little background info on "The Hutch" as he's fondly referred to by Rush. Dr. Kenneth L. Hutcherson is a former NFL linebacker and is the senior Pastor of Antioch Bible Church in Kirkland, Washington. Oh, he also happens to be a black man, and a real man at that. He's not a race hustling pimp with the "moniker" of Rev. in front of his name. He is a true man of God, a patriot and man of intellect. He's the type of man that EVERYONE can look up to!

Dismantling America

Thomas Sowell - Townhall.com

Once again, the brilliance of Mr. Sowell shines through! I highly recommend that everyone read this article. Only a fool would try to argue against what he's saying.

An Amazing Quote

It is a very great mistake to imagine that the object of loyalty is the authority and interest of one individual man, however dignified by the applause or enriched by the success of popular actions.
-- Samuel Adams "Loyalty and Sedition," essay published in The Advertiser(1748), printed in The Life and Public Service of Samuel Adams, Volume 1, by William Vincent Wells; Little, Brown, and Company; Boston, 1865

This quote is amazingly applicable today!
