Matta reacts to a call during a game against North Carolina on Nov. 29.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Thad Matta might have borrowed a page from the North Carolina pep band’s band.

As the Tar Heels prepared to take the court in the hallowed Dean E. Smith Center prior to their game with Ohio State on Nov. 29, their band played “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” a Nirvana song with the lyrics: “Here we are now/Imitate us” – a perfect summation of what Matta and the Buckeyes are attempting to do.

Namely establish themselves as a perennial basketball powerhouse in the same vein as the North Carolinas, the Dukes and the Kentuckys of the college world. Doing so, according to Matta, starts where building a team itself starts: at the recruiting level...

I think they are well on their way to becoming an "elite" program. Coach Matta is doing an incredible job! Personally, I think that if Oden had been ready for the UNC game that we'd have won. If you look at what is coming to Ohio State I'd have to say that the future is pretty bright!
