Hornish outruns all challengers to claim pole for 90th Indianapolis 500

By Dave Lewandowski
indycar.com

Somewhere beyond Sam Hornish Jr.’s six years of Indianapolis 500 futility lies destiny.

The two-time IndyCar Series champion with the Elvis sideburns believes it, as do team patriarch Roger Penske and a garage full of crew members who have toiled to make the No. 6 Marlboro Team Penske Dallara/Honda/Firestone the class of the field the past two weeks in preparation for the 90th 500-Mile Race...

We finally have a rain free day! The Pole is set and it looks as though we could have some bumping take place on "Bump Day." I'm ready to go racing. I have tickets and can't wait till next weekend.

They're My Favorite, But...

Club signs two tryout candidates

The Bengals wrapped up rookie minicamp Monday and will shift to full-squad organized team activity days (OTA) today.

But they made some roster moves before they will hit the field as a team.

The Bengals on Monday waived third-year quarterback Craig Krenzel and rookie tight end Ryan Hamby, both former Ohio State players. Hamby played at Moeller High School...

I don't like the fact that they just got rid of the only 2 Buckeyes on the team! My first loyalty is to and will always be to The Ohio State University. That's one reason why Paul Brown holds a special place with me as a Buckeye, being he led them to their first ever National Championship. I may be a bit biased, but I truly believe that CK is as good a QB as any they have right now, other that Carson (obviously). He was most definitely the smartest they had. Heck all he's done is win, even under crappy circumstances in Chicago. If he'd have been allowed to work with the talent here I definitely think he could have got the job done! I'll keep rooting for the Bengals (have since day 1), but it would have been much more enthusiastic with the Buckeye connection.

Good Bye Too Soon!

'The only No. 89 I know'

You could always count on Danny Ross and his hands, whether they were warming the chill of the second coldest football game ever played or corralling the pig long enough to put in Ken Anderson’s dorm room in a long ago training camp.

“It was payback,” said Anderson on Wednesday with a laugh as vivid as 1981. “He was just a nice guy and a great tight end. He was a real big reason we were so successful.”

Dan Ross was one of my favorite Bengals growing up. I knew he did it right and I knew he worked hard at it. I still can see him catching those TD's at SuperBowl XVI. I hated seeing him go to the USFL, loved it when he came back, and hated how his career got shortened the way it did. One of the few things that the current Bengals are lacking is a Dan Ross type tightend. It's a true shame that he's gone so soon. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Persistent rain pushes back Pole Day qualifying schedule

By Dave Lewandowski indycar.com

Persistent rain and cold temperatures at Indianapolis Motor Speedway have set back practice before WorldPoints Visa Card Pole Day Qualifying.

Weather permitting, qualifications are scheduled from noon-6 p.m. (EDT), with the first 11 positions for the 90th Indianapolis 500 up for grabs. A field that includes six former 500-Mile Race winners and four rookies is looking to qualify. Rain also forced race officials to cancel "Fast Friday" practice...

Well, here we go again. Rain is playing havoc with Indy 500 Pole day qualifying. So, we sit and wait, and hope that, maybe, just maybe it clears off and warms up enough to get at least a little action in.

Rain washes out first-day qualifying; first 22 spots up for grabs May 14

By Dave Lewandowski
indycar.com

When “Damp Cam” is shown a dozen times on the billboard video screens, you know that rainy days and Saturdays don’t mix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The weather system that has hovered over the historic facility for the better part of the week disrupted WorldPoints Visa Card Pole Day Qualifying, pushing back the four-lap, 10-mile procedure to May 14 (noon-6 p.m. EDT, preceded by three practice sessions). The first 22 positions will be up for grabs...

Well, I guess we wait till tomorrow and hope that this stuff moves out!

Let's hope that they can keep their hot streak going. It'd be sweet to go into the Big 10 tourny and knock of That School Up North and get some pay back.

I Think They Can, I Think They Can, I Think They Can...

FIVE REASONS THE REDS CAN/CANNOT STAY IN CONTENTION

CAN
1. Feel The Power
2. Faster, Stronger, Higher
3. Arroyo Rocks
4. Under New Management
5. Going Deep

CANNOT
1. For Starters
2. Closing the Deal
3. There's No Defense
4. Great American Ballistic Missile Pad
5. Pipeline is Dry

Check out they link above for the details for each. I'm going to be the eternal optimist and say CAN! Call me crazy, but things just seem to be falling right for now, so, hey, why not believe?!

I Say I Believe

The club believes; should we?

PHOENIX - Sure, they can.

There's no reason to think otherwise.

That's my short answer to the rhetorical question we're trying to answer today, which is: "Can the Reds stay in the race for the playoffs for the long haul, or will they be looking up from fifth place by the Fourth of July?.."

I see no reason why they can't! With Bronson and Aaron pitching as well as they are and the others starting to come around this team can do ok. We all know they've got the offense, so if they can continue to improve on the mound as they have this team can most definitely contend for a wild card at the very least and, quite possibly the division.

AT WAR

White Guilt and the Western Past
Why is America so delicate with the enemy?

BY SHELBY STEELE
Tuesday, May 2, 2006 12:01 a.m. EDT

There is something rather odd in the way America has come to fight its wars since World War II.

For one thing, it is now unimaginable that we would use anything approaching the full measure of our military power (the nuclear option aside) in the wars we fight. And this seems only reasonable given the relative weakness of our Third World enemies in Vietnam and in the Middle East. But the fact is that we lost in Vietnam, and today, despite our vast power, we are only slogging along--if admirably--in Iraq against a hit-and-run insurgency that cannot stop us even as we seem unable to stop it. Yet no one--including, very likely, the insurgents themselves--believes that America lacks the raw power to defeat this insurgency if it wants to. So clearly it is America that determines the scale of this war. It is America, in fact, that fights so as to make a little room for an insurgency.

Certainly since Vietnam, America has increasingly practiced a policy of minimalism and restraint in war. And now this unacknowledged policy, which always makes a space for the enemy, has us in another long and rather passionless war against a weak enemy.

This article is a MUST READ! The description here is the single most acurate representation of the American and European socialist left that I've ever read or heard. These people are guilt ridden over the fact that this country has been as successful as it has. They don't think that it's fair for one to be more successful than another. As a result they do everything possible to try to tear down this nation so as to be more "equitable." They also don't believe in the inhertant goodness of this nation or that we should do everything possible to spread FREEDOM to those not blessed to have it.

Quite frankly, I have no guilt about how this country has acted, what it has done, how it's acting, what it is or will continue to do! No one or nothing is perfect in this world, but this country is the beacon of freedom to the rest of the world and remains that "SHINING CITY ON A HILL!" Take your guilt trip and sell it to to some other spineless wonder who cares about your pile of horse manure!
